Welcome!

I’m a professor of Urban Studies and Planning at Portland State University, and director of TREC, PSU’s Transportation Research and Education Center. My research aims to understand people’s everyday travel decisions, with a focus on bicycling, walking, and transit. Why do people decide to ride a bike instead of driving? How does where they live and the environment around them influence that decision? Does their travel influence where they decide to live? How do those decisions impact their health and the environment? How do our planning and infrastructure decisions impact these travel and location decisions?
